As 2021 draws to a close, we wanted to highlight the main National Allergy Strategy achievements for what has been another challenging year.
Schools and children’s education and care project
- New Best practice guidelines for anaphylaxis prevention and management in schools and CEC released along with supporting resources.
- New Allergy Aware resource hub released.
- Supported the development of the ASCIA anaphylaxis refresher e-training and updating of the ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training for schools and CEC.
- Supported the updating of the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia curriculum resources.
- New animations to support anaphylaxis education:
- How to position a person experiencing anaphylaxis
- How to safely remove ticks
- How to prevent tick bites (available late December)
- Free bookmarks (including free postage) are available from the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia shop.
Food service project
- 3 All about Allergens courses updated:
- All about Allergens
- All about Allergens for Cooks & Chefs
- All about Allergens for Camps
- New All about Allergens for Schools course.
- New All about Allergens for Children’s education and care course.
- 32,684* All about Allergens course enrolments (*1 Jan-30 Nov, 2021).
- 3 websites updated:
- Food Allergy Aware
- Food Allergy Education website (ReadSpeaker added)
- Authorised Officer resource hub
- Updated community food labelling videos to include new Plain English Allergen Labelling requirements.
- New workplace catering poster and checklist.
- 3,520 Food service bookmarks distributed.
- 30 social media posts raising awareness about food allergen management in food service.
- Free bookmarks (including free postage) are available from the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia shop.
Food allergy prevention project
- Updated Nip allergies in the Bub website and ReadSpeaker added.
- New video about how to introduce the common food allergens for each developmental stage.
- New video series about appropriate textures for introducing the common food allergens (available late December).
- Updated recipe booklet to include photos of some recipes (available late December).
- 73,602 NipBub bookmarks supplied to health professionals to give to parents.
- 11 social media posts plus a major social media campaign through Mamamia.
- New eczema infographics for young children.
- Free bookmarks (including free postage) are available from the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia shop.
250K youth project
- Updated 250K teen and young adult websites including new content and ReadSpeaker added. New content includes:
- Managing food allergies at parties for teens and young adults
- Managing food allergies at festivals and concerts for teens and young adults
- Managing asthma
- 15 Zoom chats (teens and young adults).
- 2 new video animations:
- Managing food allergies at parties for teens and young adults
- Managing food allergies at festivals and concerts for teens and young adults
- 84 social media posts.
- 16 tiktok videos.
- New eczema infographics for teens and young adults.
- Fun day held in Perth as a camp could not be held due to COVID19 restrictions.
- Free bookmarks (including free postage) are available from the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia shop.
Australian Digital Health Agency (My Health Record) project
- New consumer guide for entering allergy information into My Health Record.
- New consumer webinar – ‘How can My Health Record help me if I have allergies?
- Supported a consumer and health professional podcast with the Australian Digital Health Agency on managing allergies.
Acute anaphylaxis clinical care standard
- Supported the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care to develop the Acute Anaphylaxis Clinical Care Standard.
